Since 1957, Lowrance has been a world - leading brand in marine electronics, GPS navigational systems and sonar. As the first company to bring fish finding technology to the recreational fishing market, Lowrance established its reputation for delivering best - in - class technology in three critical areas: highly accurate depth readings, marking fish throughout the water column and clearly defining fishholding structure. For top anglers the world over, Lowrance sonar is their choice for success in both recreational, as well as competitive, fishing environments.
Never satisfied, Lowrance challenged its product engineers with one question, “How do we make the best even better?”
Introducing The Lowrance Broadband Sounder™ – delivering the next generation of world - class fish finding capability. The Lowrance Broadband Sounder™ can see fish in, around and through structure, while operating at high speeds in challenging conditions, even in extraordinary depths. What’ more, the Broadband Sounder™ is affordably priced, easy - to - install, and works with wide range of existing transducer options. The innovative new Broadband Sounder offers:
-
Greater shallow - water detail and coverage
-
Increased target separation
-
Crystal - clear returns for easier - to - see fish targets
-
Proven deepwater performance in challenging conditions
-
Incredible value from Lowrance
Greater Shallow-Water Detail and Coverage
When fishing in shallow water, the Lowrance Broadband Sounder™ reduces clutter in the water column and presents a much clearer picture.
Shallow Water

The key to the ultimate shallow water fishing experience is linked to the innovative Lowrance Broadband Sounder™ technology, which allows a standard Lowrance 200kHz single-frequency transducer to also operate at an 83 kHz frequency resulting in a full 120 - degree wide - angle coverage. With a wider scanning area, targets remain in the cone’s angle for a longer period of time, resulting in more information collected with each return. More information means more detailed readings, which translate to dramatic enhancement to the display of structure and fish arches.
83 kHz vs. 200 kHz

In actual split-screen display mode recordings, comparisons between the Broadband Sounder™ frequencies are easy to see. The right-hand 200 kHz windows show substantial underwater target detail. The left-hand 83 kHz views show significantly enhanced definition in fish arches, and discrimination of targets in the thermocline.
"In the past, image crispness has been a tradeoff. A clean picture and strong bottom definition meant information was lost at the shallow end – not so with the Lowrance Broadband Sounder™. I am picking up fish in the upper water column, and I can see good separation between fish and structure on the bottom. If there is any bait in the upper column, I can see it too. I’m not losing anything!"
George Poveromo – Editor at Large, Salt Water Sportsman
Increased Target Separation
The Lowrance fish - finding competitive edge is best represented in its ability to clearly distinguish individual gamefish targets (shown as the well-known Lowrance "arches") as well as the ability to distinguish these gamefish targets on or near the bottom, in or around structure, or among schools of baitfish. With the Lowrance Broadband Sounder™, target separation sets a new standard for best - in - class performance.
Target Separation

The Lowrance Broadband Sounder™ empowers boaters with the ultimate in resolution and target discrimination, resulting in an unparalleled look at the depths below. Now anglers can find targets in grass, weed beds and other fish - holding structure like never before.
"This advanced technology has turned the best sounder into the greatest sounder I have ever used… not only does it let you see into the water, but through it – and the definition is absolutely incredible."
Dave Silva – Navico Asia Regional Sales Manager/ Fanatical Fisherman
Crystal-clear Returns for Easier-to-see Fish Targets
Sharp, clear imagery provides boaters at-a-glace identification of the images on the Lowrance display. A sharp image can mean the difference between seeing a rock, and seeing a fish next to a rock. Using digital filtering, the Lowrance Broadband Sounder™ greatly improves clarity, sharpens bottom images and paints a much clearer picture. With Lowrance, the targets that many often miss are now in plain view.
"This unit displays separation like I have never seen before. When there are yellowtail snapper lying on the bottom, you see the separation and say, 'This isn't bottom structure – it's fish!'"
George Poveromo – Editor at Large, Salt Water Sportsman
Better Fish Targets in Thermocline & Surface Clutter

The Lowrance Broadband Sounder™ allows boaters to see fish in surface clutter or a thermocline, as well as see inside structure and bait balls. Traditional sonar units required boaters to crank - up sensitivity and adjust gain in order to increase detail. Unfortunately, these adjustments also increase clutter, making it difficult to identify targets. Broadband Sounder's digital filtering process eliminates this problem by clearing noise from the display. Boaters no longer need to increase sensitivity and gain levels to find fish, and noise - filled displays are virtually eliminated.
"Gain controls the power output of the signal; it provides more information but also increases clutter, which can obliterate the details you want to see with the details you don’t want, such as turbidity in the upper water column. When reading the bottom, higher gain traditionally has provided too much information to make the details clearly visible. To capture bottom definition, Lowrance has replaced the gain control with a digital sensitivity adjustment."
Glenn Law – Technology Editor, Salt Water Sportsman
The powerful digital sensitivity filtering process also clears surface clutter allowing definition in upper limits of the water column. Identifying bait and fish at the surface has never been easier.

Proven Deepwater Performance in Challenging Conditions
Serious sportfishing requires serious sonar that can tackle whatever conditions it encounters on the water. Maintaining bottom lock at high speeds and capturing targets while underway can make or break a day on the water.
Deep Water Performance

The Lowrance Broadband Sounder™ provides excellent offshore depth readings. The above images were recorded at 30 mph off the coast of Miami during tests of the Broadband Sounder™ and a standard Lowrance Skimmer® transducer operating at 200 kHz.
"I noticed that when we picked up and ran at 5,000 rpm, the image stayed locked on the bottom, sharp and clear with no interference or turbulence. For years sonar has been used to mark bottom features at speed, but beyond that, little else was discernable. Now I can actually see fish on the bottom at the same speeds. This is going to be great for guys who run at high speed, looking for spots holding snapper and grouper."
George Poveromo – Editor at Large, Salt Water Sportsman
For even greater depth capability, the Lowrance Broadband Sounder™ can be used with a 1Kw transducer. With this additional power, the Broadband Sounder provides strong bottom lock and water column detail to incredible depths, as the images below demonstrate. Even in challenging conditions like sharp drop offs at cruising speed.

Incredible Value from Lowrance
Compared to other "black box" sounder solutions, a Lowrance Broadband solution featuring the Broadband Sounder™, Lowrance Skimmer® transducer, and LMS or LCX color display delivers top - end performance for high - detail definition, target separation and depth capability –all at a relatively affordable price.
Offering boaters access to cutting edge, unparalleled technology, the $599 (approximate street price) Lowrance Broadband Sounder™ is an incredible value. Inexpensive to purchase and simple to install, the sounder technology is compatible with all 2007 and later Lowrance color products that include a yellow Ethernet connector. Giving boaters more for the investments they have already made, the Lowrance Broadband Sounder uses existing Lowrance transducers, breathing new life into already - installed equipment and ensuring the ultimate in sonar display.
"A year ago, if you told someone you could reach 5000 feet with 250 watts, they would have said it’s impossible. Lowrance has revolutionized sonar technology with the Broadband Sounder, just as they did 50 years ago when they first introduced sonar to the recreational fishing market."
Dusty Walker – Lowrance Field & Technical Specialist
For even more value, the Lowrance Broadband Sounder™ can turn a standalone chartplotter into a powerful combination chartplotter/sounder. When networked by ethernet with a Lowrance GlobalMap chartplotter, Broadband provides complete sonar graphs with operational control.
